Study of conditions of women diagnosed with endometriosis
Upon the request of Monos Trade LLC, a survey team from MIRIM Consultants LLC conducted a consulting service titled “Study of conditions of women diagnosed with endometriosis” from November 3, 2023, to December 15, 2023.
The objective of this study was to examine the prevention level, disease prevalence, effectiveness of treatment, and overall condition of women diagnosed with endometriosis globally and in Mongolia. Additionally, the research aimed to analyze the legal and policy landscape, stakeholder cooperation, and propose further measures accordingly. A team of highly skilled consultants and researchers collaborated closely in designing the study, processing methodologies, collecting and analyzing data, and developing policies.
Endometriosis is a chronic disorder in which endometrial tissue is aberrantly located outside the uterus in other organs, particularly in the lower pelvic organs (muscular layer of the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tube, diaphragm and etc.), which lead to infertility and affects negatively the quality of life. |
The study utilized a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. Primary quantitative data was gathered through semi-structured interviews and document analysis, while qualitative data was collected through individual interviews. All relevant stakeholders participated, with 127 women diagnosed with endometriosis responding to the questionnaire, and 15 interviews conducted with representatives from governmental organizations and medical experts. Document analysis encompassed related statistics, laws, and policy programs.
Key findings of the study include a significant global increase in endometriosis incidence over the past decade, with 1 in 10 women of reproductive age affected. In Mongolia, genitourinary system diseases, ranking as the fourth most prevalent among the population, accounted for 11.1% of all diseases on average over the last decade. While national health policies focus on common non-communicable diseases (NCDs), endometriosis is not addressed.
Resolution No. 08 of the National Council of Health Insurance provides discounts for inpatient treatment of endometriosis, but essential drugs are not covered. Additionally, a joint order dated December 9, 2021, designates a 50% disability rating for citizens suffering from endometriotic diseases, yet patients report a lack of expertise among relevant experts in this field.
As per the collaborative order A/758 and A/197 issued on December 9, 2021, by the Minister of Health and the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, citizens grappling with “Endometriotic disease of the genitals and other organs (rectum, liver, mesentery) with constant pains (N80)” are designated a 50 percent disability rating for a duration of one year. Notably, patients have highlighted a deficiency in expertise and information among relevant professionals in this specific domain.
